The D3 defending champion Nipmuc Warriors, have been spectacular, sitting at 10-0-1 to start the year. That dominance follows last season’s 16-1-1 march to the D3 crown, and Nipmuc has kept rolling after a 1-1 tie with a tough Weston squad earlier in the campaign. They’ve gone 7-0 since then, including five shutout victories.
In their latest stretch, Nipmuc was dominant against Pope Francis. Cate Tengler netted two goals and added an assist, while Caelin Flynn notched her first varsity goal, highlighting the depth of the Warriors’ attack.
Two weeks ago, the Warriors faced Sutton and showed their control there as well. That match ended in a 3-0 Nipmuc victory, with Abby Mullins scoring twice and Kenzie Ellis adding the third. In a separate, more competitive meeting between the reigning state champions, Nipmuc also prevailed 3-2, a tighter affair that tested the squad but ultimately preserved the unbeaten string. Cate Tengler was the star of this one, ending with two goals and a game-winning penalty kick.
With balanced scoring, stingy defending, and contributors stepping up across the field, Nipmuc now heads into a weekend tilt at South Hadley tomorrow at 11 a.m., aiming to extend its run and keep the title defense humming.
