Holliston opened its football season by handling Wayland, 14-0, thanks to a dominant ground game and reliable defense. Senior running back Austin Rodenhiser led the charge with a 213-yard rushing day on 27 carries, including a 56-yard touchdown burst that swung momentum early. Austin’s combination of vision, patience, and burst allowed him to consistently gain yardage and break long runs, finishing with a strong 7.9 yards per carry average.
Quarterback Tommy Quinn managed the passing game efficiently, completing six of nine attempts for 64 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. The Panthers’ defense complemented the offense by controlling the line of scrimmage, applying pressure, and limiting Wayland’s chances to develop sustained drives. Tackles were sound, gaps were defended, and the secondary limited big passing gains.
Special teams execution and situational play-calling also played into Holliston’s ability to control field position and tempo. The victory gives the Panthers positive momentum as they prepare for Lincoln-Sudbury this tomorrow at 6:30 PM.
If Austin continues to carry the workload and the defense maintains its physical presence, Holliston could be positioned for a strong regular season. The team will need consistent offensive balance and continued defensive discipline to sustain this form.
