Recent WooSox Call-Up Lighting Up AAA

When Jhostynxon “The Password” Garcia got the call to Worcester in mid-May, it didn’t take long for him to prove he belonged at the Triple-A level. Since the promotion, Garcia has been one of the most dangerous bats in the International League, slashing .303/.370/.581 for a .951 OPS, well above the 2024 league average of .712.

Power has been Garcia’s calling card, with 16 home runs in just 59 games, a pace that projects to about 40 over a full season. His arrival came at a critical time for the WooSox, who had seen major offensive pieces like Marcelo Mayer and Roman Anthony promoted to Boston. Garcia has filled the gap and then some, earning attention not just from Worcester fans but also from the Red Sox front office.

While he’s naturally an outfielder, Garcia has been taking reps at first base—potentially a move to address Boston’s struggles at the position. Abraham Toro’s extended slump since June has left a hole in the lineup, and Garcia’s bat could be the answer. The Red Sox’ already-crowded outfield makes the decision tricky, but if Garcia keeps hitting like this, his MLB debut might be a matter of when, not if.
