Hopkinton Little League is working with Hopkinton Police to track down someone who was impersonating them on the transaction app Venmo. Officials tell the Hopkinton Independent they not only closely copied their handle but also used their photo and logo. Once HLL realized it they informed police and families and sent out a notice on July 3 and the next day the fake was gone. HLL says it appears to have been active for two weeks with a handful of transactions stolen. Investigators have requested a subpoena to get the account information from Venmo to try to track the stolen money.
