The Bellingham Youth Baseball League wrapped up game two of its Majors championship series Tuesday night at Fitton Field. The Cook’s Roofing Orioles and the Lions Club White Sox battled through six innings before Orioles’ slugger Ryan Clement delivered a walk-off hit, clinching the title for Cook’s Roofing. The game had been knotted at 2-2 entering the bottom of the sixth, setting the stage for Clement’s heroics and the Orioles’ celebration.
Beyond the championship, the league is gearing up for its annual Home Run Derby in honor of Coach Gary Nelson, who is retiring after 28 years of service. The event will take place this Sunday at noon at the Bellingham Youth Baseball Fields. Young players will compete in age-group rounds, testing their power and precision, followed by a special coaches’ competition. Prizes will be awarded to the top performers in each division, and all participants are encouraged to join the Grand Slam Celebration for Coach Nelson. Whether you were coached by Gary or just appreciate his dedication, the derby offers a heartfelt send-off to a beloved figure in Bellingham youth sports.
