Today is Franklin’s Special Town Election on a tax override to close up a gap in the town and school district budgets. The Town says the $3.86 million structural deficit is the result of fixed costs rising faster than tax revenue, which is constrained by Proposition 2 ½. If the override passes, they say it will cost the average homeowner about $312 a year. Voting goes until 8pm at Franklin High School. The Town Clerk tells Franklin Matters about 9% of registered Franklin voters voted early or absentee. There are no other issues on the ballot so voter turnout is being driven solely by the override question.
