Uxbridge Girls Tennis Season Ends with Loss to Top Seed

The Uxbridge Spartans girls tennis team concluded its season with a 5–0 defeat at the hands of Lynnfield High School, the No. 1 seed in Division 4. Throughout the match, Lynnfield dictated the pace, controlling rallies and delivering consistently strong serves that kept the Spartans on the defensive. While Uxbridge fought hard, they were unable to find answers against such a formidable opponent. Just days earlier, the Spartans had punched their ticket to the Round of 32 with a tight 3–2 victory over Leicester. In that pivotal contest, Sophia Freire battled through three sets to defeat Gia Norcia in singles play. The clinching points came from Uxbridge’s doubles teams: Danielle Olson and Sophia Simpson teamed up to win in straight sets, as did Jordan Hilgenberg and Niamh McSweeney. Those pairs provided the Spartans’ most dominant performances and underscored the depth of the lineup. Despite the disappointing end against the favorite, Uxbridge can take pride in a season highlighted by resilience and key postseason victories. The team’s ability to overcome Leicester in a pressure‐packed match speaks to their competitive spirit, setting a solid foundation for the program’s future.
