Founded 40 years ago in Franklin, The Santa Foundation remains dedicated to one mission: providing holiday gifts to families in need. The all-volunteer nonprofit, recognized as a federal charity, is once again mobilizing to help struggling families across Franklin and surrounding communities.
Director Joe Formosa describes the organization’s volunteers as “the lifeblood of the foundation.” They handle every aspect of the operation — from managing intake forms to organizing warehouses and preparing gift bags for delivery.
In 2024 alone, The Santa Foundation assisted 716 families, with 100 percent of all donations — including toys, gift cards, and blankets — going directly to those recipients.
A personal connection is central to the foundation’s approach. “It’s rewarding to talk to any family,” Formosa said. “Everyone is part of a family, not just a number on a spreadsheet.” Volunteers often reach out directly to ensure children receive thoughtful, meaningful gifts.
The foundation welcomes new volunteers and invites those interested to complete a volunteer form on its website. Families seeking assistance can submit a recipient wish list form, where parents outline their children’s gift requests.
Supporters can contribute in several ways. The foundation’s year-round Amazon Wishlist, available through the “Get Involved” page, lists current and anticipated needs. Donors can purchase and ship gifts directly to the foundation, drop them off in person, or use the list as inspiration when shopping elsewhere. Gifts may be delivered to 275 Washington Street, Suite A6, Franklin, MA, and monetary contributions can also be made online.
In addition, the foundation is running a 30-day calendar raffle this season, with daily prizes. Formosa noted that even with 26 days of prizes remaining, calendars are still available for purchase online.
Donors may also choose to sponsor a family, receiving a personalized wish list and detailed instructions by email. Currently, 130 families are matched with sponsors.
