1935 - 2026
Born in Brighton, Massachusetts, on February 17, 1935, Jerry was the son of the late Vincent J. and Anne E. (Lenny) Ruth. He was predeceased by his sister, Phyllis Oliver, and her husband Thomas, both of whom he loved dearly.
Jerry was a graduate of Matignon High School and went on to attend Boston College through the ROTC program, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics. He took great pride in his Boston College roots and was rarely seen without his beloved BC hat, which he wore proudly each day within his Atria Assisted Living community.
Following his education, Jerry built a successful career in banking and technology, working for Fleet Bank (formerly Bank of New England) in software security. He retired in 1997 as Vice President of Software Security after many years of dedicated service.
Jerry found his greatest joy in time spent with family and friends. For 27 years, he cherished camping trips in Rhode Island, where evenings by the campfire created lasting memories. He also loved traveling, with cruises—especially to Alaska—among his favorite adventures.
While living in Hingham, Jerry was deeply involved in his community. He served as a Boy Scout leader for many years, was an active member of the Hingham Parade Committee, and participated faithfully in Resurrection Parish, where he attended weekly services with his family.
In recent years, Jerry and his wife made their home in an assisted living community in Hopedale, where they were surrounded by friends and a caring community.
In addition to his wife, Mary, Jerry is survived by his five children: Anne Burge and her husband Stephen of Plymouth; John Ruth and his wife Marion of Holbrook; Mary and her husband Michael of Millville; Robert Ruth of Watertown; and Scott Ruth and his wife Maureen of Blackstone. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored.
