Born to the late Anthony and Ann (DeGrappo) Laronga, Tom lived a life defined by family, service, friendship, and a lifelong passion for sports.
A member of the Holliston High School Class of 1953, Tom excelled in both baseball and basketball. His accomplishments as a student-athlete were recently recognized when he was honored during the Holliston Hall of Fame ceremony. He remained closely connected to many of his classmates throughout his life and treasured the friendships and memories they shared.
Tom proudly served his country in the United States Army as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division while stationed at Fort Bragg.
Following his military service, he graduated from Burdett College and built a successful career in international shipping and freight forwarding. He worked for companies including Fenwal in Ashland and Wang Laboratories, where he rose to the position of Director of Transportation.
After working well into his seventies, Tom retired to Sebago, Maine, where he embraced a quieter pace of life. He enjoyed umpiring summer softball games, spending time outdoors, and staying active. Even as he approached his 90th birthday, he could regularly be found working out at the local gym three times a week.
Sports remained one of Tom’s greatest passions throughout his life. A devoted fan of Boston sports teams, he carried his love of athletics from his own playing days into coaching youth soccer and Little League baseball. He was also known for his insightful advice, competitive spirit, and humor within his fantasy football league.
Tom is survived by his son, Thomas Laronga Jr. of Sebago, Maine; his daughter, Barbara Laronga and her wife Lori of Los Angeles, California; his sister, Donna Laronga of Bellingham; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Laronga, and his sister, Ann Connolly.
Tom will be remembered as an easygoing, kind-hearted man with a quick wit, a love of sports, and a genuine appreciation for the people around him. His warmth, humor, and friendship will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 25th from 9:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at the Chesmore Funeral Home, located at 854 Washington Street in Holliston.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, June 25th.
Burial will follow at Lake Grove Cemetery.
