1950 - 2026
Born on January 19, 1950, in Beverly, Tom was the son of the late John F. and Jean F. (Shea) Egan. He grew up in Beverly before settling in Medway nearly three decades ago.
Tom honorably served in the United States Navy from February 27, 1969, to December 19, 1972, as a proud Vietnam War veteran. The discipline, strength, and integrity he developed during his service stayed with him throughout his life. After returning home, he dedicated 27 years to the Manchester-by-the-Sea Police Department, ultimately retiring as a Sergeant. He was widely respected for his steady leadership, commitment to the community, and the quiet compassion he showed those he protected. His career was a reflection of the principles he valued most — service, loyalty, and protecting others.
Above all, Tom’s greatest pride was his family. He shared nearly two decades of marriage with his beloved wife, Linda J. (Whipple) Egan. Their life together was filled with laughter, love, and cherished time spent with those closest to them.
He was a devoted father and stepfather to Lindsey Egan and her husband Casey of Magnolia; Alison Trimby and her husband Paul of Essex; Kaitlyn Brooks and her husband Evan of Menifee, California; and Matthew Trinks and his partner Brianne of Blackstone. He was especially proud to be “Grampa” to his cherished granddaughter, Charlotte, who brought him endless joy.
Tom is also survived by his siblings Dennis Egan and his wife Janet of Dennis; Joseph Egan and his wife Marie of Beverly; Christopher Egan and his wife Carrie of Hampton, New Hampshire; and Jean Belanger and her husband Kevin of Danvers. He was predeceased by his brother John Egan of Laconia, New Hampshire. He also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.
Tom embraced life’s simple pleasures. He loved the beach, the sound of the ocean, and frequent trips to Bermuda, a place that helped him truly relax. Rarely seen without one of his bright tropical shirts and well-worn flip-flops, he always seemed dressed for vacation and ready to head to the shore at a moment’s notice. He enjoyed taking casual laps along the sand — what he liked to call “spinning” the beach — often stopping to chat and share a laugh. He carried the relaxed spirit of the islands wherever he went. Those who knew him will remember his quiet humor, calm presence, kind heart, and the comfort that simply being around him brought.
Tom was also an active and proud member of American Legion Post 113 in Manchester-by-the-Sea, where he served fellow veterans and the community, including a term as Commander.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Sunday, March 1, at the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber Street, Medway, from 2–4 p.m., with a service at 4:00 p.m.
Burial will take place at a later date at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the VA Medical Center, 1400 VFW Parkway, West Roxbury, MA 02132.
