Born in Dayton, Ohio, Susan was the only child of the late William and Tunie (Keiser) Hiehle. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 42 years, Carl W. Schnapp, and their infant daughter, Amy Marie.
Susan was raised in Miamisburg, Ohio, graduating from Miamisburg High School in 1965 before earning a bachelor's degree in education from Otterbein University in 1969. She began her career teaching first grade in Westerville, Ohio. After marrying Carl in 1973, the couple relocated to Holliston in 1980, where they raised their family. Susan later spent 11 years serving the Holliston school system as a special education paraprofessional and tutor.
Family was the center of Susan's life. She treasured traveling throughout Europe and the United States with family and friends, attending live music concerts with Carl, and spending time with her daughters and grandchildren. She also enjoyed lunches with friends and treasured the relationships she built throughout her life.
Susan devoted countless hours to serving her community. She volunteered at the Holliston Food Pantry for 18 years and was an avid reader who belonged to The Dynamic Readers and the Balancing Rock Book Club. Through St. Mary's Church, she participated in Child Study during the 1980s, was an active member of WINGS, and, alongside Carl, volunteered with the parish's Pre-Cana program. The couple also enjoyed many years as members of the Holliston Mystery Club.
Susan is survived by her daughters, Theresa Anne Howell and her husband Brian of Evergreen, Colorado, and Emily Suzanne Kevork and her husband Alex of Medway; her beloved grandchildren, Ella and Sylvia Howell, and Zara and Briggs Kevork; her sister-in-law, Karen Schnapp; her nephew, Tony Schnapp; her niece, Andrea Stotler; and many dear friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 13th, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Chesmore Funeral Home, located at 854 Washington Street.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 14th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church.
