1959 - 2025
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Steve lived a life defined by quiet strength, unwavering kindness, and an appreciation for life’s simplest blessings. Born September 4, 1959, in Dorchester, he was the son of the late George and Marie (Desso) Hansen. A 1977 graduate of Brockton High School, Steve went on to devote many years to Raytheon Corp, working at various locations as a painter and carpenter. Known for being a true “jack of all trades,” his meticulous craftsmanship and congenial spirit earned him the respect of everyone he worked with.
Steve’s greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Elaine (Castagno) Hansen, who remained by his side through every chapter of life. His legacy continues through his loving daughters, Ashley (Hansen) Alexander and her husband Dustin of Northbridge, and Nicole (Hansen) Pagos and her husband Matthew of Lynnfield. He was the proud “grampy” of Ryen and Jake Alexander, and Edison and Bo Pagos, whose presence brought him immeasurable joy.
Steve is also survived by his siblings — Marie (Hansen) Cushing and her husband Tom of Middleboro, George Hansen of Whitman, and Joseph Hansen of Middleboro — as well as by the strong, supportive bond he shared with his in-laws: Jean Sacca and her husband Mike of Northbridge, Donna Castagno of Leicester, and Stephen Castagno of Hopkinton. He was predeceased by his father- and mother-in-law, Stephen and Barbara Castagno, who loved him like a son and shaped much of his early life. Steve also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends who will forever treasure his memory.
Known to many as Hans or Hansen, Steve was happiest outdoors — casting a fishing line, heading into the woods on a crisp morning hunt, or cooking up one of his legendary meals for family and friends. His stories were unforgettable, his laughter contagious, and his love for New England sports unwavering. Whether spending time with his grandchildren or relaxing with the Herald in hand, he found joy in life’s day-to-day moments.
Above all, Steve was one of the kindest souls one could meet. He gave his time, his wisdom, and his heart freely — listening without judgment, helping without hesitation, and loving without conditions. Though he may have cast his final line, his spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
In keeping with his generous nature, the family asks that memorial donations be made to an animal shelter of your choice.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be held on Friday, November 28, 2025, from 4–7 PM at Buma Funeral Home, 101 N. Main St., Uxbridge, MA.
