Born in Bellingham on June 6, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Pauline Shahtay. Sophie was a lifelong Bellingham resident who took great pride in her community.
She worked for many years as a secretary for GAF Corporation, where she was known for her dedication and friendly personality. She developed many lasting friendships during her career and often spoke fondly of those years.
Sophie enjoyed spending time at the beach and appreciated the ocean views, sound of the waves, and fresh sea air. She also enjoyed baking and sharing her treats with family, friends, and neighbors.
She was the sister of the late Patricia Stearns and Dorothy Lewinsky. Sophie is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, October 29, at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Cemetery in Medway.
