Richard A. Hooper Sr. “Richie”, 79, of Norfolk
1947 - 2026

A skilled craftsman and mechanic, Richie worked with MatCo and Snap-On and was widely known for his exceptional mechanical ability. Over the years, he owned and operated several garages, including Cook Street Garage in Waltham, NBP Mobile in Needham, and Treadwell’s Auto Service in Dover. Later in his career, he served for 13 years with the Town of Needham Department of Public Works as a heavy equipment mechanic before retiring.

Richie loved life and the many hobbies that filled it. He enjoyed building hot rods, bowling, golfing, watching movies, and was always ready to entertain with karaoke or an Elvis impersonation. He was the person everyone called when something wasn’t working. Known for his kindness, strong work ethic, and playful spirit, Richie brought laughter and warmth to those around him.

His greatest legacy was his family and the 58 years he shared with his beloved wife, Christina.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Richard Hooper Jr. and his wife Kathryn, Matthew Hooper and his wife Jennifer, Jessica Hooper and her partner Randy Cosme, and Katherine Hooper.

Richie was a proud and adored grandfather to Elizabeth, Julia, Kiana, Benjamin, Rebecca, Corey, Victoria, Kylah, and Kathleen, and a cherished great-grandfather to Jameson, Jaxen, Bailey, Jonah, and Eevie.

He is also survived by his siblings Denise, Jacqueline, Joe, Chris, and David, as well as many members of the DeSimone, Breen, Morris, and Quinlan families.

Richie lived a life of service and was always ready to lend a helping hand. His faith as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses was deeply important to him, and he passed with the hope of seeing his loved ones again.

In memory of Richie, the family kindly asks that, in lieu of flowers, you learn to fix your own car.

“Elvis has left the building.”
