Raymond Hudson Shugrue, 90, of Uxbridge
1935 - 2026

Ray proudly joined the United States Air Force in 1952, beginning a distinguished military career that spanned more than 32 years. He served as a Radio Operator aboard B-29 and B-36 aircraft before transitioning to the B-52, where he served as a Tail Gunner. Through dedication, leadership, and professionalism, Ray rose through the enlisted ranks to attain the highest enlisted rank in the Air Force, Chief Master Sergeant (CMSgt).

He concluded his military career as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for the 8th Air Force at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana and later served at Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, New York. Ray’s service was marked by exceptional leadership, unwavering commitment, and deep pride in serving his country.

Raymond is survived by his three children: his daughter, Debbie Prusak and her husband Ken of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his son, Barry Shugrue and his partner Chris Durant of Sterling, Connecticut; and his son, Rob Shugrue and his partner Jeanne Fico of Seymour, Connecticut. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Sean, Treci, Kayleigh, Eric, Emily, Teresa, Andrew P., and Kayleigh P.; his beloved great-grandchildren, Cole, Morgan, Cameron, Evee, Jocelyn, Kieran, Elias, and Madilyn; and his faithful canine companion, Patty.

Raymond will be remembered with honor for his lifelong service to his country, his devotion to his family, and the enduring legacy of leadership, loyalty, and love he leaves behind.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Buma Funeral Home, 101 North Main Street, Uxbridge. Additional visiting hours will be held on Friday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Service at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery on Granite Street in Uxbridge.
