July 1, 1958 — November 11, 2025
A Marlborough resident for the past 30 years, Pete was well known in the community as part of the Marlborough men’s softball league, where he proudly led his team for six seasons as captain of the Terrapins. He began working young at Liam’s Irish Tavern in Framingham, a place he remembered fondly and spoke of often. His professional path started in supply chain management before he transitioned into the IT field in the early 1990s, eventually serving as IT Asset Manager at First Citizens Bank, where he worked until retiring.
Pete held a lifelong passion for music, attending countless concerts beginning in the early 1970s. His deep knowledge of bands, albums, and release years earned him the affectionate nickname “Wiki-Pete-ia” during summers spent in Wells, Maine, with the “Westie’s” camp family. Among all bands, Iron Maiden was his favorite, and sharing their concerts with his daughters brought him immeasurable joy.
An enthusiast of all things automotive, Pete’s love for Ford Mustangs began with his first car—a red 1968 convertible—and ultimately led him to his prized 2003 Mustang SVT Cobra “The Terminator.” He also loved fishing, having spent two unforgettable years in the early 1980s working as an engineer aboard a commercial oyster boat out of Provincetown. The stories of life on the ocean—and the memorable misadventures ashore—were among his favorites to tell.
Pete was an avid reader, a devoted history buff, and deeply knowledgeable about aviation, attending many air shows featuring the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds. A loyal NHRA fan, he held season passes in New Hampshire for many years. Two passions defined him most clearly: gardening, which he joyfully shared with his daughter Shaunna, and his unwavering love for the Boston Red Sox, a bond he treasured with his daughter Olivia.
Pete is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Kendra (Davis) Sauer; his daughters Shaunna Bogan and her husband Jeff of Fitchburg, and Olivia Sauer of Marlborough; and his adored grandchildren Jack and Ruby. He also leaves behind his mother Valerie Sauer; his siblings Robert Sauer III, Valerie Hughes and her husband John of Natick, Ericha Stearns and her husband John of Medway, and Christopher Sauer of Centerville; and his sister-in-law Rebecca Chamberlain of Millville. He will also be remembered with love by eight nieces and nephews—Kevin and his wife Jackie, Elizabeth and her husband Steve, Zachary and his wife Grace, Ryan, Sean, Emma, Ben, and Mason—and many extended relatives and friends.
Pete was predeceased by his father, Robert H. Sauer Jr., and is now reunited with his beloved dogs Bo, Sandi, Lucy, and Sampson, as well as grand-fur babies Mama and Charlie. His loyal companion Tucker remained faithfully by his side until the very end.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 17, at 11:00 A.M. at the Pickering & Son Upton Funeral Home, 45 Main St., Upton. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Upton. Calling hours will be held Sunday, November 16, from 2 to 5 P.M. in the funeral home.
