Paul Alan Roberts, 74, of Grafton
1951 - 2026

Paul was born on June 30, 1951, in Waterbury, Connecticut, the son of the late Barbara (Dee) Harrison and Joseph Roberts. He was the loving brother of his older sister, Sharon Frigon of Wolcott, Connecticut. He was predeceased by his sister, Carol, in 2021, and his brother, Joseph.

Paul was a quirky soul with a deep love for classic movies and television, music and radio, and an endless fascination with science fiction. He often said he wished he could have met Rod Serling, creator and host of The Twilight Zone. Paul even perfected an impressive Rod Serling impression, which he delighted in performing for family members and caregivers alike. He loved animals—especially dogs—and had a special gift for making people feel valued and appreciated.

A hardworking and dedicated professional, Paul held positions with several companies over the years, including Bullard Abrasives and Future Electronics. In his early 40s, he returned to school to pursue his passion for broadcasting, graduating from the Connecticut School of Broadcasting. He later worked for AM radio station WNTN 1550, where he hosted the daily talk show 1550 Today, interviewing hundreds of people from all walks of life before retiring in 2022.

Paul also worked for Securitas as a security guard prior to retiring in 2021, where he took pride in his nightly building tours and was known for entertaining coworkers with his humor and stories. In every role he held, Paul was known as a reliable, conscientious, and hardworking employee.

As a young man, Paul spent several years living in Puerto Rico, where he became fluent in Spanish. It was there that he met his future wife, Wendy (Goodall) Roberts, when she visited the island in 1972. The couple married in Massachusetts on January 11, 1975, and later settled in Hopkinton, where they welcomed their daughter, Amy Dee Roberts, whom Paul affectionately called his “sweetheart.”

Paul was a devoted and loving father who took great pride in his daughter’s accomplishments, especially when she graduated from nursing school. His joy grew even greater when he became “Pop” to his grandsons. With Brandon Belmonte, born in 2003, Paul enjoyed exploring the woods, playing spirited games of “Tanks” on the Wii, and sharing humorous impersonations. When his second grandson, Cole Patterson, was born in 2010, Paul was thrilled once again. He loved listening to Cole play guitar and sharing playful jokes, proudly celebrating every milestone in their lives. Even as his memory declined, he never forgot “his boys.”

Paul is survived by his former wife, Wendy (Goodall) Roberts of South Grafton; his daughter, Amy Roberts; his son-in-law, David Patterson; and his grandsons, Brandon Belmonte and Cole Patterson, all of Hopkinton. He also leaves behind his sister Sharon Frigon and many extended family members, friends, coworkers, and caregivers who were touched by his kindness.

In recent years, Paul bravely faced Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Though the illness took much from him, it never took away his gentle nature, sense of humor, or ability to make people feel special. Those who knew him—even briefly—will remember his kindness, warmth, and genuine spirit.

Paul’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers of Ascend Hospice and Right at Home for the compassion and support they provided during his final weeks.

Services and burial will be private. Paul will be interred at Pine Grove Cemetery in Westborough.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages others to honor Paul’s memory by finding small ways to spread kindness and make others feel special.
