Mrs. Myrna L. (Cookson) Leon, 101, of Hopedale MA died Monday (October 21, 2024) at Atria Draper Place in Hopedale MA. She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur J. Leon who died in 1966.
Myrna was born in Lubec Maine, the daughter of the late Joseph Fayles Cookson and the late Frantie Maud (Green) Cookson. She attended public schools in Lubec Maine and was a graduate of Lubec High School, Class of 1941.
Myrna was first employed as a young woman as a packer at the R.J. Peacock Canning Company in Lubec Maine. She then moved to Boston MA and became employed at a bank, working as a secretary. Myrna then spent her life raising her family as a devoted housewife & mother.
Later in her life after passing of her husband, she was employed at Gerard’s Turkey Farm located in Framingham MA. Following that, she became employed as a secretary at various companies, lastly working at Prime Computer.
Myrna had been a member of Parents Without Partners (PWP) for a many years. She was an avid reader, crossword puzzle lover, and a formidable Scrabble player, beating her family many Friday evenings. Mryna was a cookie connoisseur and baked famous Maine blueberry pies.
Myrna is survived by her 3 children: Craig Leon and his wife Donna Leon of Northbridge MA, Catherine Gentile and her husband Giuseppe Gentile of Hopedale MA and Scott Leon and his wife Lorraine Leon of Boxford MA; her grandchildren: David Leon and his wife Katherine of Northborough MA, Kevin Leon and his wife Shannon Baker- Leon of Saco Maine, Antonino Gentile of London England, Gina Gentile of Brighton MA, Matthew Leon of Somerville MA, Lucas Leon of Boxford MA and Rose Leon of Boxford MA.
Myrna was the mother of the late Manuel Christopher Leon who died in 1985; and the sister of the late Craig Cookson.
Funeral Services will be held Monday (October 28th) at 11am at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA. Burial will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery in Framingham MA. A visiting hour will be held Monday morning (October 28th) from 10am to 11am, prior to her Funeral Services.
