Born in Milford, Ellen was the daughter of the late Richard Gulec and H. Elizabeth (Holmes) McCarthy. She attended Milford public schools and graduated from Millis High School in 1970.
Ellen devoted much of her adult life to caring for her family. Earlier in life, she worked as a nurse’s aide. She enjoyed camping with her family, crocheting, listening to music, and watching her favorite television programs. Ellen was also proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed a trip to Ireland.
She is survived by her children, Rebecca J. Mirisola and her husband, Christopher, of Milford, and Robert G. Babbitt of Florida; five grandchildren, Dakota Baillargeon, Marissa McMahon and her husband, Jared, Drew Mirisola and his wife, Cindy, Damien Babbitt, and Gavin Babbitt; and three great-grandchildren, Lukas, Griffin, and Joey McMahon. She also leaves her siblings, Hugh Joseph McCarthy, Hope McCarthy, Colleen McCarthy, and Leo McCarthy, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Ellen is also survived by her cousins, Cindy Canal, who served as a special caregiver to her, Katie Pettingell, and Robert Holmes. They were like siblings to Ellen while growing up.
Cremation will take place according to Ellen’s wishes. A graveside committal service will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery in Milford at a date and time to be announced. There are no funeral home visiting hours.
