Born in Whitehall, Wisconsin, Richard had lived in Mesa for the past several years. Known affectionately as “Old Soldier,” Richard was a proud veteran who served his country with distinction in the U.S. Army during both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He continued his service for many years in the Massachusetts Army National Guard, including with the unit based in Milford.
Along with his wife Donna, he is survived by his daughters Shiloh J. Ariel of Washington State, Sheila M. Hanson of North Carolina, and Bridgette Koivu of Georgia; his stepsons Rick Hanson of North Carolina and Stephen Hanson of Massachusetts; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wives Rita (Cole) Hanson, Margaret “Peggy” (McNamara) Hanson, and Estelle M. (McCall) Hanson.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Graveside Committal Service with Military Honors on Friday, October 24th, at 12:00 noon at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Cedar Street (Route 85), Milford, MA.
Rest in peace, Old Soldier — you will be missed by all.
