1932 - 2025
Gene was born in Milford MA, the son of the late Francesco Caccavelli and the late Concetta (Paride) Caccavelli. He attended the former Sacred Heart Grammar School and was a graduate of the former St. Mary’s High School, Class of 1952.
As a young man, Gene was proud to serve in the US Air Force during the Korean War from 1952 to 1956, attaining the rank of Airman 1st Class.
Following his service in the US Air Force, Gene began his successful career working in the grocery industry by working for the Stop & Shop Grocery Store, working in Marlboro MA and then primarily in the Milford MA location where he served as manager of the dairy department.
Gene also owned & operated a small grocery store in Whitinsville MA for a few years. He then became employed as a custodian for the Town of Milford school department, retiring in 1997.
Gene was a longtime communicant of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Milford MA and was also a proud member of the Italian-American Veterans Post #40 of Milford.
Gene was an avid golfer and also loved bowling. He loved playing cribbage with his best friend Peter, and especially loved his many trips to the casino.
Along with his beloved wife of 65 years, he is survived by his 2 daughters: Alice Guerino and her husband Robert Guerino of Milford MA & Debbie Shipperd and her husband Iain Shipperd of Milford MA; his daughter-in-law: Eleanor Caccavelli of Uxbridge MA; his 9 grandchildren: Meaghan Tucker and her husband Brandon Tucker of Franklin MA, Alicia Cerretani and her husband Mark Cerretani of Medford MA, Katrina Vincequere and her husband Anthony Vincequere of Dudley MA, Elizabeth Penza and her husband Dan Penza of Medway MA, Vito Caccavelli of Uxbridge MA, Isabella Caccavelli of Uxbridge MA, Daniel Guerino and his wife Chelsea Guerino of Milford MA, Francesca Shipperd of Milford MA & Alec Shipperd of Milford MA.
He is also survived by 8 great grandchildren: Kelsey Tucker, Carsen Tucker, Robbie Baker, Gracie Baker, Lucia Vincequere, Sophia Penza, Johnathan Guerino & Gemma Guerino; and his sister: Mary A. Arcudi of Milford MA; also several nieces & nephews.
Gene was the father of the late Joseph Caccavelli of Uxbridge MA who died in 2004; and the brother of the late Frank “Midge” Caccavelli; the late Concetta DePaolo; the late Grace Tusino; the late Josephine Sayles and the late Domenic Caccavelli.
His funeral will be held Wednesday (December 31st) at 9am from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 7 East Main Street, Milford MA. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Milford MA. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday (December 30th) from 5pm to 7pm at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home.
