Laurence was born in Lowell, MA, the son of the late John J. Shaughnessy and the late Grace W. (Burns) Shaughnessy. He attended St. Margaret’s parochial school in Lowell until 1948 and later graduated from Keith Academy in 1952. In 2014, he was recognized as a distinguished graduate by the National Catholic Education Association.
Laurence began his career working at Courier Press in Lowell. He later went on to own and operate his own printing business, American Speedy Printing, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, which later became Allegra Marketing Print Mail with locations in Portsmouth and Bedford.
He was a longtime member of the Portsmouth, New Hampshire Rotary Club and most recently a communicant of Sacred Heart Parish in Hopedale. Laurence enjoyed golfing, bird watching, and traveling.
Along with his beloved wife of 38 years, he is survived by his four children: Michael F. Chaisson and his wife Susan of Milford, Stephen H. Chaisson and his wife Anna of Manchester, New Hampshire, Mary L. Chaisson and her husband Francis Riley of Port St. Lucie, Florida, and Cary J. Chaisson and his wife Doreen of Raymond, New Hampshire. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren, Christopher Chaisson, Nicole Moon, Mark Jaillet, Amanda Denham, Joseph Chaisson, Emily Marsh, Tyler Chaisson, Chase Thilleman, Allyson Chaisson, and Sophie Chaisson, as well as ten great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his brother, Paul Shaughnessy of Nashua, New Hampshire, his son-in-law Richard Jaillet of Reno, Nevada, and many nieces and nephews.
Laurence was predeceased by his children Elaine Jaillet and Darryl Chaisson, and his siblings John Shaughnessy, Robert Shaughnessy, Mary Carole (Shaughnessy) Pender, RN, and David Shaughnessy.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation will take place. A funeral will be held from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church, 187 Hopedale Street, Hopedale, on a day and time to be announced. A visiting hour will be held at the funeral home prior to the Mass. Burial of his cremated remains will follow at Hopedale Village Cemetery.
