Maureen Frances MacEvoy, 82, of Ashland
1943 - 2026

Maureen was born November 19, 1943, on Staten Island, New York, the daughter of the late Eugene and Veronica Bailey. She graduated from Wagner College and began her professional life as a social worker for the Archdiocese of New York, where she coordinated foster care for children at the Mission of the Immaculate Virgin at Mount Loretto on Staten Island. From the beginning, her career reflected a deep commitment to helping children and families in need.

In 1967, she married John “Jack” MacEvoy Jr., also of Staten Island. The couple later settled in Matawan, New Jersey, where Maureen would make her home for 35 years. After dedicating herself to raising their son, Sean, Maureen returned to school and earned her Master of Social Work from Rutgers University. She continued her work serving children as a social worker at CPC Behavioral Healthcare, a school for children with special needs in Morganville, New Jersey, remaining there until her retirement in 2005.

Following Jack’s death in 1998, Maureen found love again and married Joseph Bliss in 2000. They shared twenty-three years together until his passing in 2023. Later that year, Maureen moved to The Residence at Valley Farm in Ashland to be closer to her son.

A woman guided by faith, Maureen was a longtime parishioner of St. Clement’s Church in Matawan during her years in New Jersey. After relocating to Massachusetts, she became a devoted parishioner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Holliston.

Travel was one of Maureen’s great joys. As a college student, she studied for a time in Austria and hitchhiked across the continent. In 1966, she traveled to Brazil, a journey she fondly and vividly recounted throughout her life. Her adventures also included Australia, New Zealand, and many trips back to Europe, stories that delighted her family for decades.

She is survived by her son, Sean MacEvoy, and his wife, Julie, of Medway, MA; her cherished granddaughters, Hope and Amelia; her sister, Veronica; her brother, Kenneth; and four stepchildren and numerous step-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. on Friday, January 17, 2026, at Chesmore Funeral Home in Holliston, Massachusetts, followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Holliston. Burial will be in New Jersey.
