Mark Abbett, 84, of Medway
1941 - 2026

Born in New York City on October 3, 1941, Mark was a graduate of The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. He went on to build a successful 30-year career with Digital Equipment Corporation.

Mark was known for his deep devotion to family and the joy he found in being part of his children’s and grandchildren’s lives. Whether cheering from the sidelines at sporting events, admiring artwork, or celebrating milestones big and small, he was always fully present and endlessly supportive.

He will be remembered as someone who never lost his sense of playfulness and wonder. Mark delighted in rolling around in the grass with his grandchildren, participating in family Olympics, swimming contests, and any activity that brought laughter and connection to those he loved.

Mark also enjoyed traveling with his beloved wife, taking “mystery rides” with the grandkids, spending time with friends, gardening, golfing, clamming, and boating on Cape Cod—one of his favorite places.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joan Abbett; his three children, Keith Abbett and his wife Megan of Sherborn, Kristen Durocher and her husband Rob of Hopkinton, and Scott Abbett and his wife Rachel of Fairport, New York; and his nine cherished grandchildren: Kismet, Kai, Dagny, Piper, Declan, Finn, Liam, Daniella, and Elouisa.

Mark will also be remembered for the kindness and compassion he extended to everyone around him. He had a remarkable ability to truly listen, making others feel valued and cared for. His warmth, humor, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Mark’s family will hold a Celebration of Life this summer on Cape Cod.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home in Medway.
