
1931 - 2026
Lionel proudly served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean War, during which time he was stationed in various locations including Greenland, Arizona, Texas, and Florida. His sense of duty and dedication carried through every chapter of his life, from his military service to his work, faith, and family.
Following his service, Lionel built a long and respected career as an auto mechanic. After his military service, Lionel became a skilled auto mechanic, working for Shell in Lexington, MA for 30 years. He later continued his career at Braun's Transportation in Hopedale, where he remained until his retirement.
Married to the love of his life, Marguerite A. (Russo) Brooks, Lionel shared a life grounded in love and commitment. He was a devoted husband and a loving father to his daughters, Lynne Patton of Hopedale, and Barbara Emerick of Uxbridge, and brother to Shirley Smith of Westborough. He was the father-in-law of the late Charles Patton and Peter Emerick.
Lionel’s legacy lives on through his four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who will always treasure the memories and values he shared. He was predeceased by his brother, Alfred A. Brooks.
Lionel had a deep appreciation for music and craftsmanship. He was an aficionado of big band music, often enjoying the timeless sounds of the era. He was an accomplished woodworker, creating beautiful pieces that reflected his patience and attention to detail. Lionel also gave back to his community, serving as a Bingo caller, bringing joy and laughter to many. His faith was central to his life, and he actively participated in church life, teaching religious education and serving as a lector at St. Blaise.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 14, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Blaise Church, 1158 S. Main Street, Bellingham, MA.
Burial will follow at South Hopedale Cemetery, 54 Plain Street, Hopedale.
