Born in 1944, Judith was a graduate of Milford High School and later furthered her education at Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester. She dedicated 30 years of her career to Milford Hospital, rising from X-Ray Technician to an esteemed administrator, where she touched countless lives with her compassion and expertise.
Judith’s greatest joy was her family. She was the beloved wife of Ernest M. Kapatoes, with whom she shared 63 years of marriage, filled with memories and adventures, including special trips to Florida and relaxing days at the beach. She was a loving mother to Cheryl L. Throup of Calabasas, CA; Kevin J. Kapatoes and his wife Melinda of Hopedale; Susan L. Kapatoes of Bellingham; and Jeffrey M. Kapatoes and his wife Melissa of Melbourne, FL. Her legacy continues through her nine grandchildren—Heather, Lauren, Matthew, Niels, John, Payton, Bella, Mady, and Lucas—and her two great-grandchildren, Corbin and Weston.
She is also survived by her sister, Lois Shannon of Milford, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family who will remember her for her unwavering support and joy. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Evelyn (Leoncini) DeSantis, who instilled in her the love and values she carried throughout her life.
Beyond her professional and family life, Judith found happiness in her garden, where she cultivated beauty and tranquility to share with others. She also gave her time and talents to coaching cheerleading and serving as a baseball umpire, inspiring young people with her leadership, fairness, and encouragement.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025, from 5–7 p.m. at the Buma-Sargeant Funeral Home, 42 Congress St., Milford, and on Tuesday, September 30, from 10–11 a.m. prior to the funeral service in the funeral home. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will take place in Hopedale Village Cemetery, Hopedale.
