1946 - 2026
Joseph “Joe” McMahon, 79, of Upton, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Joe was the beloved husband of the late Marie (Saucier) McMahon, who passed away only weeks earlier in April. Together, they shared a lifetime of love, devotion, and family.
Born in August 1946 to Dorothy and Henry McMahon, Joe was raised with a strong sense of service, community, and family values. He graduated from Nipmuc High School with the Class of 1964 before proudly serving his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His military service remained a source of great pride throughout his life, and he was a dedicated lifetime member of VFW Post 5594.
In 1974, Joe married Marie, the love of his life, and together they raised four sons in a home filled with laughter, hard work, and unwavering love. He was a proud and devoted father to Adam and his wife Heather, Ethan and his wife Lynn-Ann, Ryan and his wife Alisa, and Marc McMahon.
Joe found his greatest happiness in his growing family. He was a loving grandfather to Jared and his wife Marissa, Kayla and her fiancé Sulayman, Jillian, Cameron, Nathan, Makenna, and Liam, and a proud great-grandfather to Lukas and Griffin.
Professionally, Joe enjoyed a long and respected career with AT&T. Outside of work, he embraced life with enthusiasm and energy. A proud Mason and Shriner, Joe dedicated much of his time to fellowship and helping others. He loved softball, bowling, bird watching, puzzles, gardening, and singing — whether during karaoke or simply around family and friends.
Known for his bright personality and signature expressions like “wicked,” “no-way!,” and his familiar greeting of “it’s…,” Joe had a gift for making people feel welcomed and appreciated wherever he went.
He is survived by his siblings Mary Carmel, Robert, Patricia, Michelle, and Michael, along with many loving nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Joe.
Joe was reunited in peace with his beloved wife Marie, his parents Dorothy and Henry, and his siblings Franky, Roberta “Bernie,” and Laurie.
His warmth, humor, kindness, and fierce devotion to family will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
