Jose V. Vaz, 78, of New Bedford
1947 - 2025

Jose was born in Cervos, Portugal, the son of the late Joao and Bernardina (Vilacha) Vaz. He spent part of his early adult life in Milford before settling in New Bedford in 1972, where he remained for many years. While in Portugal he served in the Portuguese Army, a commitment he carried with pride.

After immigrating to the United States, Jose built a strong work ethic and provided for his family through years of dedicated labor. He was employed at the former Draper Corporation in Hopedale and later worked as a laborer in the local area for many years. He was also a member of the New Bedford Portuguese Club, where he enjoyed maintaining his cultural ties and community connections.

Jose is survived by his children, Joe Vaz and Diane Lima, both of New Bedford. He also leaves behind four brothers, Anibal Vaz of New Bedford, Mario Vaz, Paul Vaz, and John Vaz, all of Milford, and three sisters, Maria Batista of Milford, Eugenia Fraga of Portugal, and Maria Gloria Ribeiro of Foxborough. He was a proud grandfather to two grandchildren, and is fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Amandio Vaz.
