John “Jack” Grady, 82 of Upton
1943 - 2025

A proud member of Natick High School’s Class of 1961, Jack loved reminiscing about his days on the football field. His enthusiasm for sports stayed with him throughout his life; when he couldn’t watch the Patriots or Red Sox live, he was known to check scores on his phone with unwavering dedication. Jack gave generously of his time to the community, serving as President of the Upton Youth Club and coaching baseball, basketball, and soccer—often before his own children were old enough to play. He treasured the time he spent mentoring Upton’s youth and took pride in following the lives of the many young people whose paths crossed his.

Jack honorably served his country in the United States Army, where he was deployed to West Germany with the 24th Engineer Group. After returning home and marrying Bev, he worked for many years at Honeywell.

For Jack, nothing mattered more than family, friends, and the constant companionship of his dog, Brownie. He was known for sending early-morning messages to loved ones, wishing them well at the start of each day. His greatest joy was supporting his grandchildren—attending their recitals, games, meets, and matches with pride and enthusiasm. Jack’s green thumb was legendary; he spent countless hours tending to his impressive vegetable garden and sharing his harvest with those he cared about. In retirement, he enjoyed weekly Bridge and Cribbage games with his close circle of friends.

Before Bev’s passing in 2021, the couple shared a love of travel, exploring destinations around the world including the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, France, the Mediterranean, Iceland, Alaska, and many national parks.

Jack is survived by his children, Shaun Grady and his wife Jodie of Holden, and Kate Haney and her husband Tim of Foxborough; his grandchildren Maeghan, Brendan, Stephen, and Erin; his brothers David Grady and his wife Charlotte of Ashland, Peter Grady and his wife Sue of Whitinsville, and Mike Grady and his wife Cindy of Natick; his brother-in-law Joey Sabulis and his wife Patti of Gardner; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who became family over the years. He was predeceased by his wife Beverly and by his parents Henry and Astrid (Nelson) Grady.

A Celebration of Life honoring both Jack and Bev will take place on Sunday, December 14, from 2 to 4 P.M. at Pickering & Son Upton Funeral Home, 45 Main Street, Upton.
