John Arthur Frye, 99, of Hopedale
1926 - 2026

Born on October 29, 1926, in Swampscott, Massachusetts, John answered the call to serve his country at a young age. At just 17 years old, he enlisted in the United States Navy in November 1943. Serving as an Electrician’s Mate during World War II, he was stationed throughout the Pacific, including assignments in Hawaii and Japan following the war’s conclusion. He was honorably discharged in August 1947.

Following his military service, John built a long and successful career as a glazer with the Painters Union in Boston. He took great pride in his craftsmanship and contributed to several prominent projects, including work on the Prudential Center. Known for his strong work ethic and attention to detail, John found satisfaction in creating work that would endure for generations.

John shared his life with his wife, June (Cropley) Frye. Together they raised a family and built a life grounded in love and commitment. He was predeceased by June and by his son, David.

He is survived by his daughter, Deborah, and her husband, Paul, as well as six grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren who will carry forward his memory and legacy.

In retirement, John spent many happy years in Limerick, Maine, at a camp he built alongside his father-in-law. The peaceful setting became one of his favorite places, offering the simplicity and connection to nature that he deeply appreciated.

John will be remembered for his quiet strength, steady presence, dedication to family, and service to his country. Family and friends will fondly remember his familiar whistle, his warm demeanor, and his enjoyment of a well-made Manhattan.

His legacy lives on through the family he loved, the work he was proud of, and the many lives he touched throughout nearly a century of life.
