1951 - 2026
John worked as a local carpenter for several years with area businesses and later served for many years in security at Milford Hospital. He attended Worcester State College. An avid athlete, John enjoyed running and participated in both the Boston and Chicago Marathons. He also loved to cook and bake.
He is survived by his two children, Danil Obrien (Shannon) of Hopedale and Collen Phillips (Brian) of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one brother, Roderick MacDougall (Mary) of Mendon; two sisters, Catherine Jane Maffia of Hopedale and Ann Marie Barbara (Robert) of Chicago, IL; three grandchildren, Paxton Phillips, Cailyn Obrien, and Cooper Obrien; and his former wife, Cathy Friend.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the BUMA-SARGEANT Funeral Home, 42 Congress Street, Milford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 187 Hopedale Street, Hopedale.
Burial will follow at Hopedale Village Cemetery, Fitzgerald Street, Hopedale.
