1942 - 2026
Born in Milford, she was the daughter of the late Stanley R. and Georgina M. (Fricker) Keene. Jean was a proud graduate of Hopedale High School, Class of 1960. She continued her education at Worcester State University, San Marcos, Texas, and Northeastern University in Boston, preparing for a career devoted to helping others. Jean worked as a social worker at the Evergreen Center, where she made a lasting impact before her well-earned retirement.
Jean had a deep love for family and adventure. An avid antiquer, she delighted in discovering hidden treasures and the stories behind them. She enjoyed traveling with her family and creating lasting memories along the way. Holidays at home were especially meaningful, filled with laughter, warmth, and the sense of togetherness she so naturally fostered.
Her love of plants reflected her nurturing spirit, and she found great joy in gardening. She also treasured time spent with friends, always ready for an outing filled with laughter and camaraderie.
Jean’s legacy lives on through her children: Donald S. Griffin and his companion Marcia DePaolo of Hopedale; James A. Griffin and his wife Kim of North Dartmouth; Tracy L. Johnson and her husband Scott Brown of Hopedale; and Kelly J. Merchant of Hopedale. She is also survived by her sister Janice Rodrigues and her husband Bert of Mendon, along with seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who will carry forward her loving, spirited, and humorous nature.
She was predeceased by her brothers Richard Keene and Robert Keene, and by her three grandchildren, Abigail, Ashton, and Valerie Johnson.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 2:00–4:00 PM at the Buma-Sargeant Funeral Home, 42 Congress Street, Milford.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the funeral home.
Burial will take place at a later date.
