Born in Boston, he was the beloved son of the late James and Edith (McWhinney) Poor. Raised and educated in Boston, Jim went on to earn his master’s degree in Teaching from Boston University, beginning what would become a lifelong commitment to education.
Before retiring, Mr. Poor dedicated many years to the Boston Public Schools as a high school teacher. A versatile and devoted educator, he taught multiple subjects and was known for his patience, steady guidance, and genuine care for his students.
Outside of the classroom, Jim found great joy at the racetrack. He had a deep passion for drag racing and all forms of car racing, a hobby that brought him excitement and a strong sense of community. Through the racing world, he built lasting friendships with many who became like family to him.
Jim is survived by the many dear friends he cherished and considered family. He will be remembered for his warmth, loyalty, and enthusiasm for life.
Funeral services will be held privately.
