Jacqueline Irene (Day) Smith, 79, of Westborough
1946 - 2026

Born in Worcester, Jackie was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Anita C. (Wood) Day. She graduated from North High School in Worcester in 1964 and earned a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics from Framingham State University in 1968.

Jackie began her teaching career at Forest Grove Middle School in Worcester before later returning to the classroom at Gibbons Middle School and Westborough High School. She retired in 2008 after a career that included teaching International Foods, Creative Cooking, Health, and Child Development. Jackie was also proud to establish Westborough Public Schools’ first preschool program.

Jackie was known for her sense of humor, generosity, thoughtfulness, and exceptional cooking skills. She decorated wedding cakes and desserts for countless special occasions, and many former students returned over the years to thank her for the cooking and life skills she taught them. She was also active in her children’s and grandchildren’s activities, serving as a Girl Scout leader and parent group member, and volunteered on numerous church committees and sang in the choir.

Jackie loved creating flower arrangements, decorating her home for the holidays, Cape Cod vacations, shopping, reading, strong coffee, and getting her hair and nails done. She especially enjoyed sending cards and care packages to family and friends and spending time with the people she loved.

In addition to her husband, Jackie is survived by her children, Stephanie A. Trethaway and her husband, James, of Westford; Suzanne M. Conley and her husband, Patrick, of Sutton; and Daniel R. Smith of Mexico and points beyond; her grandchildren, Ryan and Caitlin Conley and Lauren and Ella Trethaway; and her sister, Judith Seale and her husband, Peter, of Connecticut.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, October 14th, from 4–7 PM at Pickering & Son Westborough Funeral Home, located at 62 West Main Street in Westborough. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 15th at 10 AM at The Congregational Church of Westborough, located at 57 West Main Street, followed by burial at Pine Grove Cemetery.
