August 24, 1932 - November 2, 2025
Born and raised in Whitinsville, MA, Harvey was the son of the late Herman and Alice (Jongsma) Youngsma. He last resided at Blackstone Valley Health and Rehabilitation (formerly St. Camillus) and was a lifelong member of the community he loved.
Harvey proudly served the Town of Northbridge throughout his lengthy career with the Northbridge Police Department, earning the respect and gratitude of many. During a brief period living in Townsend, MA, he continued his dedication to public service by holding a seat on the Townsend Board of Selectmen. Upon returning to Whitinsville, he made his home at the Whitinsville Retirement Home, where he remained active and social.
A founding member of Fairlawn Christian Reformed Church, Harvey’s faith guided his life. He was known for his humor, wise counsel, and warm spirit that endeared him to all who knew him. Even into his nineties, Harvey could often be found on the golf course, enjoying the game he loved. Above all, his greatest joy came from being a father and grandfather, roles he cherished deeply.
He is survived by his sons: Ronald Youngsma (Jackie) of Chesapeake, VA; Donald Youngsma (Martha) of East Douglas, MA; Jeffrey Youngsma (Debbie) of Caledonia, MI; and Jonathan Youngsma of Webster, MA. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. Harvey is also survived by his first wife, Anna Stiers, the mother of his children. He was predeceased by his second wife, Judy Hill, and his siblings Gordon Youngsma, Norman Youngsma, and Ruth Avedesian.
Though Harvey will be greatly missed, his family and friends rejoice in the promise of eternal life and take comfort in knowing they will see him again in Glory.
Funeral services and burial will be private.
