Grace E. (Dickson) Lawson, 93, of Upton

Mrs. Grace E. (Dickson) Lawson, 93, of Naples FL and Upton MA died Friday evening (October 11, 2024) at The Willows@ Medway in Medway MA after a period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of the late Rev Dr. William Burton Lawson who died in 2011, to whom she was married for 56 years.

Grace was born in Minneapolis Minnesota, the daughter of the late Dr. William A. Dickson and the late Laura (Baxter) Dickson. She graduated from West High School in Minneapolis MN and was also a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science Degree. She later earned her Masters of Arts Degree from Goddard College in Vermont.

While attending the University of Minnesota, Mrs. Lawson was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. She also worked as a volunteer at the Sister Kenny Institute and in the Nursery School at the Minneapolis Society for the Blind.

Grace taught school in Minneapolis and Duluth Minnesota before moving East and teaching for twenty-eight years in Dover Massachusetts. She retired in 1994.

Throughout her life Grace was actively involved in many organizations. She was a member of the Delta Gamma alumnae groups and President of the Northern Connecticut Delta Gamma Alumnae Chapter. As she moved throughout the country, she continued her support and involvement in The Woman’s Club, the Republican Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, Episcopal Church groups and Hospice.

Grace was an avid reader, a gourmet cook and enthusiastic Bridge player throughout her life, as well as a supporter of the symphony and live theatre. Grace participated in several book clubs and study groups and continued to audit college courses as a retiree. She traveled widely throughout the United States and abroad, and with her husband enjoyed a sabbatical, studying at Oxford University in England.

Grace is survived by her son: William L. Lawson and his wife Jill Lawson; her 4 grandchildren: Brooke Lawson Ramos and her husband Isnel Ramos, Jacqueline Lawson, Brett Lawson and his wife Lindsay Lawson & Spencer Lawson; her sister: Mary Dickson Nelson; also 4 nieces & 2 nephews.

Grace was the mother of the late Thomas Baxter Lawson who died in 1991 and the sister of the late Nancy Dickson Groseth who died in 2002.

In accordance with her wishes cremation will take place. A Committal Service of her cremains will be held in the Memorial Garden at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 39 East Central Street (Rte 135), Natick MA on a DAY & TIME TO BE ANNOUNCED. There are no visiting hours.
