Born in Newton, Massachusetts, Cheryl was a city girl at heart who longed for country living and a life surrounded by animals. That passion shaped much of her life, leading her to work as a veterinary technician, become an avid horseback rider, and participate in sled dog racing—where she met her beloved husband of 52 years, Peter Bowen.
Cheryl carried a deep sense of empathy inherited from her mother and a sharp, joyful humor passed down from her father. Quick with a joke and known for her unforgettable laugh, she could light up any room, whether at family gatherings, restaurants, or wandering the aisles of a department store. Her laughter was unmistakable and contagious.
She treasured quiet moments as much as lively ones, especially time spent at “The Cottage,” the lakeside New Hampshire retreat built by her father. There, she found peace in the natural beauty around her, particularly the rainbows that seemed to appear just for her enjoyment.
To her family, Cheryl was a powerful maternal force—loving, nurturing, fiercely protective, and endlessly devoted. She created a lifetime of memories through the home she built, the gardens she lovingly cared for, and the adventures she embraced. One especially cherished memory was a later-in-life trip to Ireland, where the woman who had never cared much for alcohol unexpectedly developed a fondness for Guinness—always managing to surprise those around her.
Cheryl is survived by her son, Jared of Boston; her daughter, Becky of Milford; and her beloved grandchildren, Dylan, Reagan, and Riley, who brought her immeasurable joy. She also leaves behind her siblings, Michael and Sharon; her son-in-law, Christopher; her best friend, Jeanette; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
