1948 - 2025
Born to the late Emil Charles Pattin and Elinore Carline (VonHartmann) Pattin, Chip grew up in Paramus, New Jersey, alongside his sister, Elaine. He graduated from Paramus High School in 1966 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business from Doane College in Crete, Nebraska, in 1970. He later continued his business studies at the University of Nebraska. Chip built a successful career as a senior sales engineer in the high-tech industry, working for TDK, AMP Inc., and several other companies across New England.
Chip and Maryann began their life together in Illinois before settling in Mendon, Massachusetts, where they raised their cherished daughter, Dr. Kristine (Krissy) Pattin Giffin. Their shared love of travel took them across the United States and throughout Europe, with Italy holding a special place in their hearts as they connected with family and made lasting memories abroad. A lover of the arts, Chip was an enthusiastic theatergoer who delighted in attending both local and Broadway productions, often sharing the experience with Krissy and her friends — nurturing their lifelong appreciation for the stage.
An avid golfer and skier, Chip loved time spent outdoors, whether hitting the slopes on family trips to Vermont and New Hampshire or golfing with his close friend, Joe. Nine years ago, he and Maryann relocated to New Hampshire to be closer to Krissy and to celebrate the arrival of their grandson, Asher Pattin Giffin, in 2016. Known affectionately as “Papa,” Chip’s greatest joy came from time spent with Asher — teaching him golf, helping him perfect his baseball pitch, exploring science projects, and joining him and his friends for movies, bowling, and adventures around town.
Chip will be forever remembered for his humor, generosity, and joyful spirit that brought light to every room. His legacy of love, laughter, and curiosity will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Maryann; his daughter, Krissy, and her husband, Matthew; his adored grandson, Asher; his sister, Elaine Monroe (Frank); brothers-in-law Robert Laronga (Sharon) and Victor Laronga (Mary); nieces Jennie Laronga and Kerry Black (Ben); nephews Robert Laronga Jr. (Stefania), Steven Laronga (Sakti), Mark Laronga (Kimberly), and Ryan Monroe (Anna); ten great-nieces and nephews; and many lifelong friends who will cherish his memory.
Chip’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, including Dr. Matthew Sullivan, Kyle Morgan, Katie Mansfield, the hematology team, and the nurses and LNAs whose kindness brought him and his family comfort. They also wish to thank the Visiting Nurse Association of New Hampshire and Vermont for their exceptional home care support.
In accordance with Chip’s wishes, cremation will take place, and burial will be held privately at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Milford, Massachusetts, under the direction of the Consigli-Ruggerio Funeral Home.
