1933 - 2025
Born in Franklin on June 24, 1933, John was the son of the late Biagio and Giulia (Rofino) Palumbo. A true patriot, he proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Private First Class.
John is survived by his beloved sweetheart, Barbara (Somerby) Palumbo of Mendon; his sister, Gloria Marino of Franklin; his daughters Christina Dias and her husband Joao of Mendon, and Leslie LaFlamme and her husband John of Mendon; his grandchildren Ashley Grover and her husband Jay of Mendon, Alexis Hiser and her husband Kyle of Douglas, and John Dias, Jr. and his beloved partner Aery Kang of Mendon; and his great-grandchildren Tommy, Milo, Quinn, and Wyatt.
He was predeceased by his siblings Georgette Chiccarelli, Anne Manella, and Frances Pratt, all of Milford, and Albert Palumbo of Franklin.
In his younger years, John was passionate about training thoroughbred horses and running his own business. He married the love of his life, Barbara, and together they shared 59 wonderful years filled with laughter, family, and love. Known affectionately as “Sonny,” he spent his days outdoors—cutting the grass, tending his vegetable garden, and caring for his pool alongside his “Bobbi,” as he lovingly called her.
A man of great humor and strength, John never shied away from a lively debate—often with a glass of wine in one hand and a fine cheese in the other. He was a talented cook, famous for his gnocchis, meatballs, and Italian soup, which brought joy to countless family gatherings. Even well into his later years, his determination and independence were unmatched; just a decade ago, he was still climbing onto the roof to make repairs himself.
Above all, John was a man full of love—for his family, for life, and for his “sweetheart.” His laughter, bear hugs, and playful cheek pinches will never be forgotten. His devotion to those he loved was unwavering, and his legacy will live on in their hearts forever.
