Barry L. Anderson, 83, of Milford
1942 - 2025

Barry attended Springfield Technical High School, where his sharp, methodical way of thinking stood out early. He later graduated from Bryant College 1963, and his strong math skills and intelligence carried into his career, where he worked as a head buyer at Hendries Frozen Foods & New England Frozen Foods.

Barry shared an extraordinary life with Joan P. (Scully) Anderson — teenage sweetheart and together for over 68 years. They began their life together in the East Longmeadow area before moving to Milford in 1968. Joan passed this year in March after 61 years of marriage. Together they raised two sons, Gary Anderson of Worcester and Glenn Anderson and Jennifer of Milford, and Barry took immense pride in his grandsons, Kyle and Connor Anderson, celebrating their achievements and milestones with real joy.

He was predeceased by his sisters and their husbands, Allison Anderson Cahill, Truman Cahill, Joan Anderson Earnshaw, and Robert Earnshaw. Barry is survived by several nieces and nephews and, as shared, he maintained a meaningful relationship with each of them.

A lifelong sports lover, Barry was remembered as an outstanding baseball player in his younger years. That love of sports stayed with him—especially as a devoted spectator who would gladly travel to watch events, with a special fondness for horse racing. Barry's presence at the Saratoga racetrack was yearly, and he often spoke about the excitement of attending the Kentucky Derby. His passion also led him to stay involved locally for years through coaching youth baseball, playing softball, and bowling in leagues into his late 40s.

Family traditions mattered deeply to Barry. He especially loved the holidays, vacations, and time spent with the people closest to him. The family’s Christmas Eve and Fourth of July traditions were particularly meaningful—often lasting two days—and he would go to great lengths to be there, even driving through severe weather when needed. Over the years, his travels included cross-country road trips with his parents, Cape Cod vacations with the Anderson family, Hampton Beach trips with the Scully family, and annual fall getaways to the White Mountains with Joan.

Barry and Joan also built a home filled with warmth — and pets. There was never a time when a pet was not part of their Milford home. Family and friends were always welcome, and they took pride in making meals, holidays, and gatherings feel special. Barry will be remembered as a devoted son, loving husband, proud father, caring uncle, and a cherished “Papa.”
