1939 - 2026
Born on June 29th, 1939 in Milford, Barbara was the daughter of the late Leonard and Bertha (Martin) Rogers. She graduated from Mendon High School.
Barbara was known for her warmth, genuine kindness, and welcoming spirit. She had a gift for making everyone feel at home and devoted her life to her family, raising five children who remained her greatest pride and joy.
Alongside her beloved husband, George L. Plays, Barbara proudly owned and operated the Haywagon Restaurant in North Uxbridge for 25 years. More than just a restaurant, it became a gathering place where customers became lifelong friends—three of whom eventually became her sons-in-law.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. Barbara attended church every Sunday and found strength and purpose in her unwavering devotion. She especially cherished summers at the family lake house, where gatherings with loved ones, laughter, and evening boat rides created treasured memories.
Barbara shared a loving marriage with George until his passing 25 years ago. Later in life, she reunited with Palmer Swanson, a classmate from Mendon High School. Their 14 years together were filled with companionship, laughter, and many happy days spent at the lake.
Barbara is survived by her children, Beverly A. Kessler and her husband William of Uxbridge, Sally R. Staples of Uxbridge, Stephen G. Plays of Douglas, Linda J. Nydam and her husband Douglas of Uxbridge, and Sharon E. Emerick and her husband Thomas of Uxbridge. She also leaves her partner, Palmer Swanson of Douglas, 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
