Albert “Butch” Sala Jr., 73, of Mendon

Mr. Albert “Butch” Sala Jr., 73, of Mendon MA died Thursday (March 28, 2024) at his residence in Mendon MA after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Nancy H. (Browne) Sala

Butch was born in Cambridge MA, the son of the late Albert Sala and the late Josephine (Gesa) Sala. He attended the former Sacred Heart Grammar School in Milford MA and was a graduate of the former St. Mary’s Central Catholic High School, Class of 1969. He was also a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado, Class of 1973.

Butch began his successful professional career as a financial planner first working for the John Hancock Life Insurance Company, and then at Lincoln Financial. He then established his own financial planning business, called Successful Financial Strategies, which he ran from the 1990’s to 2019.

Butch had grown up in Milford MA and had been a resident of Mendon MA since 1983. He was active in the community of Mendon, serving as a baseball coach for the Mendon Little league; a coach for the Mendon Youth Soccer League and also volunteered as the Weight Training Coach for the Boys Varsity & Junior Varsity Soccer team at Nipmuc Regional High School.

Butch was an accomplished athlete at St. Mary’s High School and was an avid sportsman, and he particularly enjoyed his hunting trips to New Hampshire every Fall. He also traveled extensively with his family & friends and especially enjoyed visiting Italy, Hawaii and the Caribbean.

Along with his beloved wife of 49 years, Nancy, he is survived by his son: Gregory Browne Sala and his wife Jennifer Sala of Las Vegas NV; his grandson: Joshua Ryan Sala of Las Vegas NV; his sister-in-law: Kathleen (Browne) Sheffler of Uxbridge MA; his brother-in-law: Walter Browne and his wife Kathleen Browne of Buzzards Bay MA; his cousin: Rosalie McManus of West Roxbury MA; also several nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews.

Butch was the father of the late Andrew Browne Sala, who died in 1998 and the son-in-law of the late Walter & Helen (Lucek) Browne.

His funeral will be held Monday (April 8th) at 9:30am from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am in St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, 151 Mendon Street, Upton MA. Burial will follow in Swan Dale Cemetery in Mendon MA.
