1936 - 2026
Born in Fall River, Claire was the daughter of the late Donat and Lea (Berube) Mercier. Throughout her life, she called several New England communities home, including Westport, Massachusetts; East Providence, Rhode Island; and Hopedale.
Claire worked for many years as an office manager at Reliance Electric. Organized, practical, and remarkably sharp with finances, she had a strong head for business and a keen eye for getting the most for her money. That talent went hand in hand with one of her favorite pastimes—finding a great bargain.
Known for her wonderful sense of style, Claire took pride in looking her best. She was independent and spirited, knew what she liked, and was never afraid to share her opinion.
Claire loved entertaining and had a special gift for bringing people together. She treasured family and friendships and enjoyed creating opportunities to share experiences and make memories. Over the years, she organized and enjoyed many memorable trips and gatherings, including time spent on Cape Cod and in Florida.
An avid reader, Claire also enjoyed exercising at the Hopedale Senior Center and treasured time by the ocean, which remained a lifelong source of happiness.
Her faith and community were also important parts of her life. Claire was a longtime communicant and active member of Sacred Heart Church in Hopedale and served as vice president of the Laurelwood Condominium Association.
Above all, Claire cherished her family and the relationships she nurtured throughout her life. Her nieces and nephews held a particularly special place in her heart, as did her many cousins and extended family members. She made an effort to stay connected and had a special way of remembering birthdays, celebrations, and other important occasions.
Claire is survived by her siblings, Maurice Mercier and his wife, Lorraine, of South Carolina, and Rachelle Larue; several nieces and nephews, including Robin Eaton of Portsmouth, Rhode Island; and many beloved cousins and extended family members.
She was predeceased by her husband, Burton B. Finigan; her sister, Pauline Fontaine; her brother, Robert Mercier; and her stepmother, Laura (St. Germaine) Mercier.
In accordance with Claire’s wishes, cremation will take place.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, August 29th at 12:00 PM at the Sacred Heart Church, located at 187 Hopedale Street in Hopedale.
