WESTBOROUGH/SOUTHBOROUGH – Local leaders are discussing the possibility of combining fire services between two neighboring communities. Fire officials in Westborough and Southborough are exploring whether a regionalized department could improve efficiency and reduce costs.
The two fire chiefs have proposed conducting a feasibility study to evaluate the idea. They note that both departments already respond to many calls together through mutual aid agreements.
According to the Community Advocate, a combined department could allow the towns to share resources such as operational procedures and radio systems. Upcoming Town Meetings in both communities include a request for $50,000 to fund the study.
