WESTBOROUGH – Westborough Public Schools are proposing a 4% budget increase for the upcoming fiscal year, which would amount to roughly a $3 million rise. According to the Community Advocate, district officials say the proposed increase is actually lower than the budget hikes seen in the years leading up to the pandemic.

School leaders note that student enrollment in Westborough has declined by about 200 students, resulting in the need for four fewer full-time positions. However, they say overall costs are still expected to increase due to higher expenses tied to salaries, transportation, and special education services. Officials point out that transportation costs alone have doubled since 2020, contributing significantly to the proposed budget increase.
