WESTBOROUGH – Fire officials are warning residents that many smoke alarms across Massachusetts may no longer be reliable.
Authorities say alarms installed ten years ago are reaching the end of their useful life and could fail when needed most.
Westborough Fire Chief Patrick Purcell is urging residents to check the manufacturing date printed on the back of each device and replace any unit older than ten years.
He emphasized that working smoke detectors save lives.
