By MyFM’s Claire Beverly – Westborough has been awarded a nearly $92,000 grant from the Department of Conservation and Recreation for the Lake Chauncy Historic Canopy Restoration. The money is from the state’s Urban and Community Forestry Environmental Justice Grant which gets federal funding. Officials say a shortage of trees makes a large swath of Westborough into a “heat island”. This funding will allow Westborough to expand their modernized planting program to add more of certain trees for a sustainable canopy.
