SOUTHBOROUGH – Several firearms-related charges have been filed against a man from Washington State following a traffic stop in Southborough.

Police Chief Ryan Newell says an officer stopped the vehicle after noticing the license plates were difficult to read. Once the plates were checked, officers discovered they did not match the vehicle, prompting a further investigation. During a subsequent search, police say they found a loaded, unregistered handgun along with several 9mm rounds.

Officials say the man was not licensed to carry the firearm and is also facing charges related to possession of a high-capacity magazine. The incident remains under investigation.
