HOPKINTON – A man wearing a trench coat and gas mask prompted a brief shelter-in-place order Monday at the shopping center located at 77 West Main Street in Hopkinton.

Police say calls came in around noon reporting a suspicious man in the area. According to a spokesperson speaking with the Hopkinton Independent, the man told officers he was wearing the gas mask for “physical training purposes.”

Although one caller feared the individual might be armed, police say he was not, and no weapons were found. After assessing the situation, officers lifted the shelter-in-place order about 30 minutes later, giving the all-clear to nearby businesses and residents.
